After Britain’s longest reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II lost her life, everyone in the royal family wore black at Westminster’s hall service which marked the final departure of the Queen from Buckingham Palace before she lay in state ahead of her burying. What caught the attention of many was the outfit of the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.
While the new Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, wore a pearl earring that belonged to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana and the Queen’s pearl and diamond brooch, Meghan was seen wearing pearl earrings gifted to her by the Queen. While her whistlestop European tour plans had to be shelved after the passing away of Her Majesty, Meghan had to ensure that she paid respect to the Queen without making it look very showy since the entire world was watching. She wore black discreet separates peppered with timeless tokens by Cartier and Jennifer Meyer. She paired it with a veiled headpiece and body coat.
Meghan and Prince Harry joined the others in their family to receive the Queen’s box at Buckingham palace. The body was later draped in accordance with the royal standards, and the Imperial state crown was placed on the top for the box. The Sussexes will then pay their respects to the Queen, one last time at Westminster Abbey on 19th September 2022. This will happen in the presence of the head of state, dignitaries, and other public who will turn up to honour the Queen.
